Sugar, Sugar...I loved reading Archie comic books and watching the cartoon!

Disco was the anthem of my high school years. Every school dance was flooded with polyester leisure suits and ended with Donna Summer singing Last Dance!

Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Tragedy, Words, Jive Talkin'...I could keep typing a long list of songs here as they had so many hits.

And they even got three versions of their lunch box, one with each of their pictures on the back. I bet Barry sold the most...don't you?

Several years ago, I came across my very first lunch box...the Mickey Mouse Club. I remembered that as I got older, I had a Partridge Family lunch box and set out on eBay to find one. I found it, but while I was there I saw so many cool lunchboxes that brought back so many wonderful memories...I of course wanted to have them all. Over 50 lunchboxes later, I HAD TO STOP! In my old house, I had a place to display them but have not found a place in my current home. When I needed to clean out the closets for the new carpet, I had to get all the lunch boxes out and realized how much I missed them. I have decided to have some shelves built in the game room and get them out to enjoy. I thought I would share some with you guys and hope they provide fun memories for you like the did for me. Today I am sharing the ones that have to do with music. So many teen idols and so many truly bubble gum songs! Stay tuned for some wonderful old television shows next week!

New Flooring is FINALLY In!

This was the entry way before the new flooring! I have lived in my house for almost 5 years and never liked this tile...and it was the first thing you saw when you walked in the house!

The dining room (right off the entry way) was carpeted. The carpet is very light and just did not do much for the room.

This was the tile in the breakfast area and kitchen. Just plain white tile squares (showed every speck of dirt).

You can see the white tile in the kitchen....blah!

The process of taking up tile is so very labor intensive and time consuming!

I felt sorry for the tile guys...it took them 6 days to tile 4 rooms! It really was dirty, tedious work.

There was dust EVERYWHERE! I thought I was being smart and putting stuff in the pantry to avoid the dust...forgetting they had to put tile in the pantry also...so they took off the door and everything in there was covered with dust as well.

My new entry way! I wanted a barn wood look and struggled with how to get it. They told me not to do real wood in the kitchen as it would dent if you dropped on it. They told me not to do laminate as it would bow up with water spills.

So I picked a tile that comes in planks and looks like real wood. I had to pay extra for them to lay it in the zig-zag design...but I love it!

It just makes the house look so updated!

My next project is to paint the cabinets white and really finish out the farmhouse kitchen!

Oh, and I did get new carpet everywhere else. As you can see from the previous picture, my old carpet was almost white. I was really worried that this darker brown (cocoa) would make the rooms look smaller, but it did just the opposite. Everyone comments on how much bigger the rooms look now.

It was a very messy pain to have new tile and carpet installed...but 4 days past the promised date and several inches of dust later...I love it! The house looks so updated and feels so clean (well, except the dust I am still trying to clean up). It really is a huge task to get ready...but so worth the outcome! I love it.

Some New Red....

After all the Christmas stuff came out of the "Red" booth, it looked pretty empty. I just happened to have a stash of new red stuff waiting patiently in the garage...although this just about wipes me out. I have to be on the lookout for more red! I continue to think that one day, we will change this booth and do something different, but it keeps on selling....so red it is for a little while longer!

Kitchen Remodel????

When I started thinking about a kitchen remodel, I had NO idea I would have such a tough time deciding what to do! As I look over these pictures, I am more confused than EVER. I love pieces of each, but don't know if a hodgepodge of these would be good. One minute I want a soft farmhouse look, but then I see the cool pictures of a more retro colorful kitchen. Those of you that know me well are probably laughing right now since the only thing I use a kitchen for it to keep my Diet Coke cold....but it still needs to look pretty! Oh my...what to do, what to do!

Finally, The Front Booth Gets a Facelift!

I wish I had taken before and after shots of this buffet and cabinet. I don't paint often and need proof when I do!

I had sold out of stacking vintage suitcases but came across some on a recent visit to Oklahoma. I love old suitcases.

Of course, we have to have a vintage prom dress!

I love this old tattered chair with the springs hanging out of the bottom.

These lights were a PAIN to hang as I could not get the power drill to the holes. Finally after some maneuvering and muffled censored words, I got them up. Whew....

I had just stepped off the ladder from hanging these old mailboxes when a lady came up and asked for me to take two of them down. They are so cute!

I LOVE this old floor heater...

I think these glasses and stand would be great on a front porch in the spring.

A great lampshade...I love the shape.

We hung these pieces all over the wall. I am tempted to bring them home and do the same.

I have been a very bad dealer during the holidays! Just had so much going on and no time to change up our booths. They were really looking empty and it was WAY passed time for a sprucing. So we loaded up the trailer and headed to the mall. I had an old buffet that I had planned on painting for several months and to my amazement, the weather around the holidays participated and I got it done. I always think these projects and good ideas when I buy them...then they sit in the garage for several months! The booth took on a little more formal look than planned, but I still like it. One booth down and two more to go!

Christmas at the Nursing Home...

Several years ago, my friends and I decided to stop buying Christmas for each other and instead adopt a needy family for Christmas. We all have everything we need and it really became a chore to try and find stuff that any of us needed or wanted. In our new tradition, we had so much fun buying for each of the family members and dropping all the goodies off at their home right before Christmas. During this time, we had to put my Grandfather in a Nursing Home. I was horrified to hear from them that close of 50% of their residents did not even get a visit from a family member on Christmas (let alone a gift). We, as a group decided to turn our efforts and money toward these wonderful and neglected seniors. For the last 5 years, we have loaded up my parents RV and headed to Oklahoma to spread Christmas Cheer at this Nursing Home. My Grandfather is gone now, but we still feel drawn to this cause and to make these folks feel loved at least during the Christmas season. We bring them each a stocking filled with small Christmas trinkets. They each get a Santa hat and bell necklace. The ones that are able come to the dining room where we pass out song books and sing Christmas Carols. We then stroll through the hallways singing softly and delivering gifts to those who are bedridden. The sparkle and smiles on their faces is truly enough to make even the Grinch feel warm. My new friend (pictured above) that I named Ms. Pink...sat at a table by herself. When I joined her while singing Christmas Carols....She smiled and answered all of my questions with a very polite "Yes". When I asked her if we sang bad, she smiled and said "Yes" once again! I did not take offense as she answered everything "Yes". When we started walking down the halls, she followed us and tried to act like she was busy and not following us....straightening pictures or wiping off the railings on the wall. When one of our group asked her if she liked our singing, she smiled a sly grin this time and said "No"! We all chuckled and although she claimed not to like the singing, she strolled down each hall with us. She was a doll! I did watch her later steeling stuff from the maid's cart and then rushing to her room! We also visited a 92 year old lady who requested Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. About half way through the song, she came out of her room and started dancing in the hall. It was so wonderful to see such life and fun in this 92 year old woman. She told us it was the most beautiful Christmas song she had ever heard.

I could go on and on about each one of these amazing and loving Seniors...but I will spare you all. I know during the Christmas Season we are very focused on kids (as it should be)....but don't forget the neglected Seniors. I promise it will make your heart grow three sizes!

Inspiration for the Den....

This print started it all! I found this wonderful framed print a few months ago at The Montgomery Street Mall. It was in my friend Lisa's booth, Digs. I knew immediately that I was going to have it and it was going to hang over my fireplace at Christmas. I just love this it...unfortunately this picture does not do it justice.

I originally thought I would do all silver and gold on the mantel, but just could not make it look right...so snowy white took over. It never turns out the way your originally envisioned!

The angels are from LaurieAnna's.

I wanted a flocked tree this year and set out to find one. I went EVERYWHERE...and they are expensive on-line. Finally, someone told me about The Decorators Warehouse in Arlington, Texas. They had the most wonderful selection at about half the price I could find them on-line.

I found these Dickens Carolers at Lone Star Antique Mall. My friend Gayla was not sure she wanted to sell them, but finally caved and they are at my house now!

Have you ever found that piece that you just know you have to have. Without looking at the price tag, you just know it is going in your house and exactly where it will go. Well, the Christmas print at the top of this post was just such an item for me. Never, ever did I even think about resale...I knew I wanted this for my very own. It became my inspiration for the entire den and I love it hanging over the fireplace. It may just have to be out all the time...not just at Christmas!

Welcome to Denis' House. This is then entry way as you walk in the front door. The coat tree has been entrusted to me by my friend, Teresa...it belonged to her Great Grandmother and welcomes everyone to the house.

I love this old red sled....puts me in the mood for snow!

With 50 guests coming...here is seating for 8 in the dining room. We only need to find seats for 42 more!

I love all the red...makes a great splash as this is the first room you see as you walk in the front door.

The place mats are paper and have the imprint of the dish and silverware on it. Got these at LaurieAnna's

My wonderful white hutch that I bought off of EBay for resale....yep, it stayed in my house!

I HATE to do the Christmas trees, so Mom does them for me. This tree is one corner of the dining room and she changes the theme every year. This year it is vintage gloves, hankies, pearls, earrings, bow ties and ornaments. The ornaments are ones we kept from when I was a child!

My red hutch...another item bought for resale that never made it to the mall!

These gold trimmed dishes were bought for resale also...I really suck at this business!

This is the Giving Tree. All guests at the party (and anyone who comes to my house during the holidays) gets to take an ornament from this tree. I collect ornaments all year long and love watching folks pick the one they like the best.

Well, the Annual Christmas Party was a hit. So many wonderful friends and GREAT food! I love it when the house is full of laughter and the smell of Christmas. I look forward to the annual party all year long. Mom cooks a wonderful dinner for 50...my friend Teresa makes all the desserts and I...well, I just host! The first room that everyone sees as they walk in is the dining room. We have seating for 8 in this room. This year it is a bright red so you can't miss it. I will update later with more pictures of the party and the house. Ho Ho Ho!

Just 3 hours away from the annual Christmas Party at my house. 50 of my closest friends will get to feast on a wonderful Paula Dean style meal prepared by my Mother....I am already drooling. The house is FULL of Christmas spirit...now it just needs some laughter and love! Can't wait for everyone to get here. I will post pictures next week!

Wonderful Shabby Christmas Tree....

I was so excited when I found this wonderful old shabby tree. It has a great vintage color and feel...and I could not wait to get it to the mall. It got to spend the night in our booth and was gone the next morning! It was pretty in there for a moment....and now will be a wonderful addition to one of our dealer's home. You shouldn't fall in love with the things you sell! I know it has a wonderful home and will have a long life of making their home beautiful.

Pictures from our Harvest Booth at Lone Star....

Just a note to wish you all a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. I have so much to be thankful for and this post is not long enough to share how truly blessed I am...but I do count one of my blessings the outlet I have found in antiquing. It affords me the opportunity to do the things I love (shop and decorate), but it more importantly has brought so many wonderful people into my life. I read a book a while back called the "Celestine Prophecy" and one of the prophecies is that everyone you meet is put in your life for a reason if you are open to it. Working at Lone Star has created so many wonderful friendships. Doing the Homestead show in Hico has been a blessing. Shopping at incredible places like The Funky Monkey, Laurie Anna's, Canton and Round Top have all brought amazing people into my life that have blessed me. The blogger world has brought so many talented friends into my life that inspire me every day. I am thankful for all of you junkers, owners, shoppers, sellers, bloggers....and friends in my life. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

The Ruby Grace Christmas Booth...

I love the time of year....where we get to be OVER THE TOP with Christmas! Take the already "Red" booth and bring in some green and you have a bright and cheery Christmas Booth. Thank goodness it was a dealer work night and the mall stayed opened for everyone to bring in Christmas....Mom and I needed the extra time to get it all done. It was so much fun to work with all the dealers who were merrily decorating their booths...we were all already in the Christmas Spirit. While we were setting up, the cutest little 14 year old girl came in with her Mom and bought our red and white Christmas Prom Dress....but no worries, we ran home and brought in two more! Stop by Lone Star and see all the wonderful booths already in the Christmas Spirit. Ho Ho Ho!

My Love Affair with the Gerber Daisy...

If you have followed my blog long enough, you know that my favorite flower is the Gerber Daisy. I love the colors and they are good for Spring or Fall Decor. I spent some time a few weeks ago decorating a little for fall and decided to bring some fresh Gerber Daisies into the mix. They make me smile! Unfortunately, they did not last long (I guess they were not very fresh), but the were beautiful while they lasted. Oh and yes, I did throw a couple of sunflowers as well. Happy Fall Y'all!

I need to start this post with an apology to ALL the wonderful dealers who are not pictured here. I took my camera out the first morning before the show started to get hundreds of fantastic pictures. When the pre-show dealer meeting started, I got distracted and planned on coming back later. Guess what...it was not until I got home that I realized I never did. Here are just a FEW pictures from the Homestead Antique Fair in Hico. I should have several posts full of wonderful eye candy and feel bad that I don't. Sorry to everyone who is not included, it certainly was not because of the lack of incredible merchandise and displays....just because of a forgetful and easily distracted me!

Sorry for the delayed pictures...I couldn't find my camera and had to unpack some to determine where it was! What a wonderful time we had in Hico this weekend. So many wonderful dealers and customers. I just love the family feel of this show...we spend half of our set-up time hugging and visiting every time a dealer shows up! We were blessed with good weather (a little windy and cold Friday). So many talented dealers (pictures later). I always leave this show inspired by what everyone else does. These pictures are from our booth...yes, this is my stuff. I have never tried a harvest theme and as you guys know, I usually have a color theme. It was fun putting this together, but will be back to picking a color in the spring. Thanks to all who came out and spent some time with us. We all had a great time.

Getting Excited about the Fall Homestead Show!

Just a couple of pictures of our newly re-done front booth at Lone Star. I love the wall paper (craft paper) that I got from LaurieAnna's on the back wall. It was the inspiration for the entire set-up. The blond wood french bed is killer...still thinking about it in my guest room. Many dealers still have their anniversary sale going on...we have 10% on anything over $20. Come Visit!

Pictures from my space at LaurieAnna's last weekend!

I had the greatest time at LaurieAnna's in Canton last weekend! First of all, what an incredible host. Laurie had a larger spot than I anticipated and decorated the walls for me which provided the perfect backdrop. Her team (including hubby Willy) were so wonderful and welcoming. When you walk in the store and have all these incredible people who want to help you, it is not an act...they are all really that way ALL of the time! I was amazed at the grace and caring that these folks use when taking care of their clients and the composure when the store is full and the lines are long. Laurie has assembled an awesome team and I loved getting to work with them all. I am so honored and proud to have been invited to set up at LaurieAnna's, but even prouder of the friendship that has developed with Laurie over the last year. She is and incredible businesswoman, decorator, host and friend! I also had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful clients of Laurie's...some of you I knew, but most of you I did not. With the shop FULL, it was hard to get to talk with everyone, but thanks to all of you who stopped and chatted.

I could seriously go on for pages about the experience, but as most of you shop at LaurieAnna's, you already get it! I have asked if Laurie ever needs help on a Canton weekend to let me know and guess what....I am going to work there for the November show (along with my friends Tracy & Michael). I am so excited and hope you all will come in and visit. I will post pictures of the shop later in the week which will make you want to run to visit us!

Oh, and one last thing....Lone Star Antique Mall is starting their Anniversary Sale on Friday (October 7th). Going to be a great weekend with some great deals...come on out and shop! I just redid the front booth and brought in some new things.

I am certain that everyone reading my blog knows of LaurieAnna's as I have put pictures from her shop on here several times, but just in case you are not...OH MY...She is amazing! I am a LaurieAnna worshipper and have admired her work for so long, so to be able to be there and see it all first hand is really going to be a treat. I think this old fixture was in a grocery store to display bread. It has openings in each shelf to let the bread breathe. But it is perfect at the Beauty Shop to display perfumes and other stuff for sale!

Evening in Paris, we got it! Blue Waltz, we got it! Check out the perfume case and smell wonderful.
UPDATE: The wonderful old pink suitcase sold. The lady who bought it said her husband had an old vintage car this color and this suitcase was going in the back. Fun!

UPDATE: There were two chairs and a table to this set and they sold yesterday!

When Mom saw this cabinet, she tried hard to find a place at home or at the lake for it...but it finally ended up in the in the Beauty Shop. Wonderful old chippy piece.

We have transformed the pink booth into a 50's Beauty Parlor! Welcome to Ruby Grace's Twirl & Curl. It was so much fun collecting and putting this together. We had a hard time getting it all set up as folks wanted to come in and reminisce with us. It is so wonderful to hear the stories and memories that everyone has. It struck a cord with many as the first day, our sales were great. Come on in and reminisce...remember, no appointment necessary!

My Room at the Family Lake House...

Got this dresser top from Dorothy @ the Shabby Y. I told Mom that I would love some old family pictures, so she found these of Great, Great Grandparents. I love having our family history in this room.

I got this shelf from Lydia at The Lone Star Antique Mall and loved it. I finally figured out that it would go above this window. Old clocks make it perfect. I found the Tea Room Sign at an antique mall in Graham, Texas.

My favorite piece is this wonderful desk that I bought from Lisa @ diggs (Montgomery Street Mall). I had seen it and loved it, but did not even think about my room at the lake. I was so excited when I went back and it was still there. I found the burlap ottoman at Lone Star Mall at Betty Jane's.

Don't have a clue who R. L. Koenig is, but I love the street sign!

These wonderful old drapes came from Dorothy @ The Shabby Y. There were perfect instead of a door on the closet. The quilt hanging in the closet is one that my Grandmother made...Love it!

We found this bedding at the Spring Show in Round Top. Bought the pillows and the lady made the rest of it for us.

The mason jar lights are from Laurie Anna's in Canton. I LOVED THESE THE MOMENT I SAW THEM and did not have a clue where I was going to put them when I made the purchase. They are wonderful (and practical) in this room!

Mom has been wanting me to decorate my room at their lake house on Texoma and make it my own for some time now. I finally found a few pieces and started putting some stuff together. It started green and ended up burlap and blue! The room is small, so it was important for me to be practical as well as pretty. I love the way it looks and I think it now reflects a little of my style. It was fun to do and now I just need to spend more time up there and enjoy it.

A friend called me a few weeks ago and told me about a store she had read about in the Dallas Morning News. She said it was described as Industrial Chic! Well, you guessed it...we were in the car that morning heading to Dallas to shop!

It is just down the street from the White Elephant and other amazing antique shops by the Dallas Design District. She is only open one weekend a month and I have sent an email to get the next date....I will update this post when I get them. We had a fun day shopping all up and down Irving Blvd.

The Shabby Y is Back!

This is probably old news to most, but Dorothy from the "Shabby Y" has re-opened her booth at Lone Star. We missed her terribly and love having her back. I tried to take some pictures when she first opened back up, but everything sold so fast, the pictures were dated by the time I tried to post. Dorothy is so very talented and creates wonderful stuff using vintage and antique finds. Her booth is easy to find as it is the one directly in front of you as you enter the front door. So glad to have my wonderful friend and neighbor back at the mall!

The bed is a wonderful old white iron baby bed...I covered it up with so much stuff that you can't see it. It would make a great day bed.

A while back, Mom wanted some old wooden curtain rods and we looked everywhere. She finally found something else to use, then I came across these. Hard to find and wonderful!

Cabinet doors, frames and wicker...you can't go wrong!

We usually don't make up the bed as it just takes up tooooo much space in the booth. But Mom had tons of linens and wonderful crochet spreads...we took the space and made it up.

You know each booth has to be re-done once a month...am I a nut? We took out the blue and brought in green and white. I love the metal bed and I think is shows off the wonderful bedding we have collected. It is always fun spending time at the mall and getting to meet so many wonderful customers (old and new). It is an all day affair after you stop and talk with everyone! Come visit us at Lone Star...gonna work in the red booth this weekend.

The dining room table was one last cheer to summer and color!

Not exactly the way I intended. I had the hardest time finding fresh flowers. My original thought was to have Gerber Daisies in each bottle, but could not find any. Settled on these.

These dishes are ones my mother collected all of my life. Been in the family forever!

It helps to be in the Antique (aka junk) business when planning a party. The brown bottles and old clothes pins are stuff I bought for resale. Keep your eye out at the mall for them later!

I forgot to get a shot of the food, but did snap a pic as Mom was getting it ready. Imagine a wonderful country ham, cheesy mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, a fruit salad and fresh rolls. It was a Paula Deen calorie filled meal!

We had a fundraising dinner back in February and one of the live auction items was a home cooked meal at my house for 12. Mom is a bit of a legend with all my friends for her wonderful home cooked meals and I knew this would raise a lot of money. A dear friend of mine from work very generously bought it and brought 11 of her friends and family over last night to cash in. Mom outdid herself and all went home stuffed and happy! Since she was preparing a very traditional country type meal, I decided to decorate to match. Each table must have changed 5 times as I kept setting and resetting them. I love the way they turned out and it was a fun, festive evening.

Grief Camp...

Well, if you have been a follower of this blog for long, you know that I am off to Camp El Tesoro de la Vida. This is a week long grief camp for kids who have lost a family member due to death (mostly parent or sibling...but sometimes the grandparents or others if they were the caregivers). The camp is just outside Fort Worth in Granbury, Texas at a Camp Fire camp that has been around for over 75 years. We are expecting 110 kids (our biggest year EVER) from ages 6 to 17. Luckily, we have the GREATEST 73 volunteers and Therapists who make this such a special week for these kids. We like to say that camp is 90% fun and 10% grief work, however the entire experience is therapeutic. These kids are surrounded by 109 other kids who understand what they are going through and feeling. You can only imagine how your childish safety is pulled out from under you when your Mom or Dad dies. Maybe the oldest son assumes the father figure role in the family or the oldest daughter starts caring for her younger siblings. We want this week to be about them being a kid (they are kids first and grievers second). We want them to play, hike, ride horses, do archery, swim, paddle canoes, do arts and crafts and so many other wonderful activities. They can do this and laugh without fear of being disrespectful to the parent who died. They can just be kids and have fun. For one hour a day they participate in a group session with their cabin mates and a professional therapist. Younger kids do a lot of art therapy (their attention spans are not very long) and older kids do more talking and processing. I hate to paint the picture that all we do is sit around in canoes and cry all day....camp really is about having fun. I remember my very first year when I had seven 3rd grade boys. Immediately after they arrived, they starting asking each other who died in their families. When it came to me, I had to confess that I had not lost anyone. As direct as 3rd graders are, they immediately asked, "Then why are you here". I told them that I just wanted to help them have a great week and that one day when I did have someone in my family die, I hoped this experience would help me. They seemed okay with the answer and we had an amazing week. When the parents pick up the kids on Saturday, we have a ceremony where we plant a tree and the kids surround it with rocks they have painted in memory of the person who died. When it was time to get them to the ceremony, I found them in the corner of the cabin all huddled up. When I asked what they were doing, they showed me that they had my staff shirt and had written their phone numbers on it so I could call them when someone died and they could help me as much as this camp had helped them. Well....needless to say, I was hooked and 19 years later I am not only still going, I have been the Director for the last 16 years. When it is just tooooooo hot to work in your yard, what do you do? You work in your booths! You still sweat, but not nearly as much. 20 days over 100 degrees here in Fort Worth...UGH! I LOVE the summer, but even I am over it. My yard looks like crud but the booths look good. Stay cool everyone!

Some stuff I have started putting together for a show I have been invited to do...exciting details to come!

In the fall, I would like to change out our front booth (currently blue and green) to more browns and earthy colors.

My motto is that anything in mass can be a cool display! I bought a box full of old gloves and then this weekend bought a bag full of child's red bow ties (this is just a few of them).

We decorate a lot with pearls and I love great old buttons.

Don't have a clue what do do with all these buttons, but the look cool!

I want to do a display with some old black metal frames I bought and thinking about using these black trimmed platters with them? Who knows.

I am thinking this is toooooo formal for me....we will see where it ends up.

You know all our booths have to have a vintage dress!

Well, I have seen several people participating in Karen's Blog Party about where bloggers create @ http://mydesertcottage.blogspot.com/. I decided that although I can't compete with most of the rooms I have seen, I would humbly participate. I am not sure I would say I create in this room, I really just stage there. When I bought my house, it had what was considered a kid's playroom. You have to go through this room to get to the two guest rooms. Since I don't have kids or need a playroom, I was stumped what to do with it. I thought about using it as a comfy TV room for guests outside their guest room...then thought about some type of library, but never really came up with a good fit. So it got dubbed, "The Weird Room". When I started in the junk business a few years back, I decided this would be the perfect room to stage my next booth set-ups. As any of you know who shop at Lone Star, I love to change out our booths often and I decorate by color. A booth usually has the same color decor (thus the blue booth, the pink booth and the red booth). I tend to do small vignettes in this room to get my creative juices going and store the larger pieces in the garage. As you can see by the pictures, I have several color themes going right now. Setting these vignettes up helps me identify gaps and be on the look our for pieces that will finish out a booth or show. Sometimes when I buy toooooo much stuff, it just becomes a junk room for storage and I have to spend a weekend cleaning it out! There you have it...my Weird Room!

I was telling someone last week that our sales in the red booth had slowed down...and that is usually a signal that it is time for a booth re-do. So Mom and I spent the day rearranging and bringing in some new stuff. I have since had to rearrange twice as the sales have been GREAT! It is amazing what a little freshening up can do. I went in this afternoon to fill in some holes and decided I better post pics ASAP before they change again. I LOVE the red industrial stuff. I was chatting with the girls over at Three Ring Cottage and they asked if this is what my house looked like. It actually doesn't, so maybe this is why I love buying stuff for and decorating this booth...it is an outlet for me!

Have you ever walked around your house and realized that you have a particular attraction to certain items, colors or collections that you did not realize? As I was cleaning this weekend, I realized that I have a lot of suitcases. Not sure what sparked this love or interest, but I have them in several rooms....and have several sets at the mall. As a child, my Dad was in the military and we moved a lot...could this be the reason for my love of suitcases? I travel a lot with work...could this be it? I buy lots and lots of stuff and need the storage...yep, I think we have found the reason! Whatever my infatuation, I do love the look.

I have not updated much on the pink booth recently, so thought I would post some pictures. We sold our large cabinet that held most of Mom's crotchet doilies, scarves and stuff....so she spread them all over the booth. Probably better for customer to see and really examine each one of them. As I told you before, Mom really takes great pain to make all of these perfect. She washes them and eliminates dirt and stains, then starches and irons each one with love. She says it is therapeutic, but I just think it is toooooooo much work. She has a very loyal following and we rarely go a day without selling something crotchet or embroidered. It is fun to listen to folks in this booth as they reminisce about their Grandmother's homes who had similar doilies and scarves all over (I know mine did).

Went to one of my favorite stores in the WORLD today...The Funky Monkey in Keller, Texas. Amy, the owner, was not there...but as I was snapping photo's, I noticed a theme. Amy seems to have a thing about bodies and body parts. Everywhere I looked I saw them (and I did not take or post the pictures of all of them either). I now know what I am getting Amy for Christmas...and birthdays...and St. Patrick's day...and, well you get the idea. Go visit Amy at the Funky Monkey...you will LOVE it and her!

I thought I would start highlighting some of my favorite dealers at Lone Star and let you get to know them. This booth is a relatively new dealer (been there about 6 months) and she is GREAT! Her name is Gayla and her booth is called Vintage-ology. She has a wonderful eye and does a great job of mixing in just enough color with her shabby decor. She does a lot of garden and always has unique pieces. I think she must change her booth up about every week...it looks different every time I am there. She is also a perfectionist and you will find her at the mall most of the time worrying about the little details. Wonderful dealer and wonderful lady. Drop by and see her stuff. What happens when a dear friend comes and buys out your entire booth???? You head to the garage, find everything blue and green and head to the mall!!!! Usually I have a vision when I am gathering stuff for the booth....I picture everything in my head (although my head is usually bigger than the booth) and I know generally where I want stuff. When the booth got wiped out in one day, I headed to the mall with an SUV full and absolutely NO vision. It took several attempts and lots of hanging and unhanging, but I am finally pleased with the way it turned out. A silly fact: I bought the wonderful green chairs in the last picture folded up and without opening them. It took me forever to figure out how to get them set up! Dealers were laughing that I had bought them without seeing them set up...sometimes you just know.

Beautiful Churches in Maui...

Okay, this will be my last post about Maui...I promise! I have always loved old churches. I love the architecture and the spirit of them. While we were in Maui, Tracy and I drove around one afternoon and visited several of the beautiful churches that we could find. They all have large windows along the walls and keep them open for an airy feel during the services. There were some great statues and art pieces in them as well. Several of them had cemeteries beside them and most of the tombstones were adorned with floral and shell leis. These wonderful old building were enhanced by the gardens and blooming flowers (as was the entire island). It was so beautiful and I enjoyed visiting each one of them.

I did not know that Laurie has a thing about scales! In all the times I have visited, I never noticed all the scales she has around the shop. And, she was trying to buy more from customers while I was there!

Every table looks like it belongs in a magazine!

I am going to redo some light fixtures in my house and I know where I am going to get my new ones!

Once again, I am speechless. I don't know how Laurie and the gang at LaurieAnna's get (and keep) this shop so amazing. And every time it is different! You just have to take a step back and breathe when you walk in. Then you have to roam the rooms several times to take it in and see it all. It was fun to see folks I knew and fellow bloggers with their mouths open like mine. I ran into Felicia from Bountiful (Lone Star Mall Dealer) and she was almost giddy. She said she was so inspired and could not wait to get back to her house and her booth to re-do them both. We both agreed that we want to spend a day with Laurie when she is redoing just to be free help and watch her in action. And to think that Laurie has no schooling in design....in fact, she is a former banker! We worked at the same bank years ago...but I missed the training she got on design. Not only is the shop visually incredible, but you feel so warm and welcome there. Laurie's name gets called not less than 50 times an hour, but she smiles, answers everyone's questions and makes you feel like you are the most important customer she has. I could type and go on for pages and pages, but the pictures speak for themselves. Again, if you have not been to LaurieAnna's in Canton...don't walk, RUN!

Blooms of Maui....

Sunsets in Maui are spectacular. We tried to find a new spot to watch the sunset every night. They are AMAZING!

Mount Haleakala Crater...My very favorite place on the island! It is 3,000 feet deep, 7.5 miles long and 2.5 miles wide with a total circumference of 22 miles.

You are at 10,023 feet above sea level at Mount Haleakala. It is an active, but currently not erupting volcano. I think this is where the clouds come to sleep at night!

Everything blooms in Maui!

Just got back from paradise! 7 days on the island of Maui. It is truly amazing and the closest thing to paradise I have ever seen. A group of friends go every two years and this year was just as great as the very first. Not enough memory space to include all the amazing pictures, but you get the idea. I will post some of the wonderful flowers you see on the island later this week. I am trying to get my body back to the 5 hour time different and need to go to bed! Aloha!

There were so many incredible dealers at the Homestead Antique Show in Hico last weekend...I had a hard time picking out samples...I could have put on 100 more! So many talented folks who really did a great job on product and design. There is just something so special about this show, the dealers act like they have known you for ever and you are family. I know this has to convey to the shoppers. Out hosts, Mike and Brenda have a lot to do with it. I am already planning for the Fall Show in October and looking forward to seeing all my buddies. I need to step up my game based on these pictures!

What a GREAT time we had! Thanks to all who came out to see us at the Spring Homestead Hico Show last weekend. Close to 1,300 guests were in attendance and I felt like several times they were all in my booth. Thanks for being patient as we checked out as fast as we could. Great weather (although it was questionable as we set up on Thursday), great vendors and great hosts. I am attaching some pictures of our booth, but I need lessons on taking pictures outdoors with the sun shining in! If you enlarge the pictures, you can see them better. As you can see, turquoise was my color this show. It looked so good against the old rock walls of the Homestead shop. Although we are not in the tent with everyone else, I love being up here with this incredible backdrop. I had Jennifer and Ronnie from Lone Star on one side of me, Kevin and Katherine from Wheatland General Store next to them and Kathy & Deidra from Girls Gone Junkin' in front of us...What a great time we had! Some Saturday Procrastination Finds....

In my true procrastination way, I ended up out junkin' instead. My garage is already full but I just KEEP ON BUYING! I love the stuff I got...and as you can tell, I am still procrastinating as I post to the blog....I better get to what I need to do and paint.

The New Couch was Okay....

I bought a new couch and could not wait until it was delivered. I sold my old couch to a friend and patiently waited. I waited for 2 weeks and it was finally delivery day! They brought the couch in, set it in place and waited for my reaction. It was okay, it was just not what I expected. The couch was brown and the wall behind it was brown. It just did not have the impact I wanted. Don't get me wrong, it did what I wanted in the room which was to give me more, comfortable seating....It just was not as breathtaking as I had imagined. After a few weeks of fluffing and new pillow buying, the couch started to grow on me. Then it hit me, I needed to have some kind of dish or platters about the couch along the windows! I have a few that I was planning on selling and I knew exactly where to get more. The next morning I went to my friend Amy at the Funky Monkey and she of course had just what I was looking for. Mom had the plate holders and now I was in business. I am much, much happier with the couch and the room now. This was just the touch I needed to get the effect I had hoped for.

Spur of the Moment Booth Re-Do...

Do you ever just get the itch to decorate???? On the spur of the moment I headed to the garage to see what I could find to redo one of our booths. As I picked around, I noticed a lot of black....so I loaded up the SUV and headed to the mall! We had this booth in shabby white accented with greens and quickly, I had most of the green out. I brought in the white metal bed (which I love) and before you knew it, I had a HUGE mess! 5 hours later, it was finally where I was happy. Every time I get that itch, I try to remember how I was feeling about hour 4 of the redo..."Why, of why did I start this project". But it does not work and I once again head for the mall with a car load full. Here are a few pics of 5 hours worth of work...can you say perfectionist!

Look What My Friend Dorothy Made Me!!!!

Last fall at the Hico Homestead show, I saw these wonderful old metal tables that had been painted to look like clocks. I admired them the entire show and have forever regretted not getting one. Well my friend Dorothy from the Shabby Y put on her creative hat and made me one! Isn't it GREAT? And, you don't have to worry about daylight savings time with this one. I walked all over the house trying to find just the right spot and finally landed on the hallway that leads upstairs and is the wall you see when you walk out of the guest bathroom. It is so beautiful and even more special that someone I love made it. Thanks Dorothy....you are the BEST!

Prom Season....

We barely had this wonderful velvet dress in over a week when it sold. They told me the young girl who bought it was beautiful with red hair. She was with her Dad and he bought it for her for Prom.

This dress sold today....don't you know whomever bought it will be beautiful.

This girl must have been TINY! They told me she was very cute and in love with the dress. She put it on layaway and came back the same day and paid it off....don't you know she was excited!

I was there when this one sold. The girl was there with her Mother and Sister and she looked beautiful! She told her Mom she wanted a vintage dress and wanted to go to the Lone Star Mall to find it. She had black hair and the dress fit perfect. Everyone watched as she twirled and admired! She attracted a crowd. Her little sister said she was going to wear it to her prom when she was old enough also.

I love that young girls are seeking out vintage dresses to wear to their Proms. It is about this time of year when start to sell these wonderful old gowns. We have sold 5 in the last month! I did not get a picture of the 5th one...sold tooooo fast! I know all these girls will be the Belle of the Ball!

My Mother found an old doll head that she has been looking for in Mindy's booth. She has been searching for the doll she had when she was little and Mindy had the head. There were some tears shed when she saw it! Thanks for the memory Mindy.

I should have known better than to take a different camera on our trip to Round Top! I have a camera from work that is smaller and easier to carry around, so I decided to take it. RATS! I was so determined to be a good blogger and take lots-o-pictures and most of them just did not turn out. These are a few of the better ones, but not great. All the pictures make it look overcast and it wasn't...it was sunny and beautiful. Oh well...we had a WONDERFUL time and came home with the back of my SUV crammed and a trailer full of wonderful junk (pictures to follow).

Would you just look at all the treasures!

You can't see all the pearl earings and pins that are clipped behind the neclaces.

Pins are pinned all around the edges and earings are laying on the trays (the top shelf is knobs).

Some of the sparkly stuff...can't really tell from the picture.

I got a phone call from a friend who said his son had been helping his girlfriend's family do some spring cleaning and painting. As they were cleaning out the attic, they came across a bag of old costume jewelry and wanted to know if I wanted it. He warned me that it was probably Goodwill stuff, but I said I would love to look at it. My friend and his wife came over for dinner later that week and brought a shopping bag full of manila envelopes and warned that they had looked in a few and it looked pretty bad. We went out for dinner and I left the bag of goodies on the counter. When I got home, Tracy and I watched the DVR of last weeks Glee and I did not even crack the bag open until midnight. WELL...at 1:30am I was still opening envelopes and squealing like a little girl. Wonderful old pearl necklaces, beautiful vintage pins and fantastic 50's earrings. I finally went to bed, but got up the next morning and quickly resumed my treasure hunt. I got them all organized and tried to put them in some sort of order in my "Antique Booth Waiting Room". I love them all! Mom came over and got some that she wanted to keep before I got pictures...we think some of the earrings are Bakelite (which she loves). We did find a pendant that looks like a real diamond. Going to stop by a jeweler and check it out....if it is, we will give it back. Just had to share...not sure the pictures do them all justice.

I Am Still Alive!

Wow....It has been WAY TOO LONG since my last post. Life gets busy and things just get away from you....or it could just be that I am lazy? I hope everything is well with all my blogging friends. We leave this Thursday for the happiest place on earth...Warrenton Texas during the Roundtop Antique Show! We have had our reservations for 6 months and I love our twice a year trip. The trip and shopping are wonderful but the real treat is the people I go with. On another note: I have posted some pictures of one of our booths. We re-did it a few weeks ago and I foolishly waited to take pictures. In the middle of the booth we had a wonderful old wood chest with old rusty door knobs as handles. I also had a beautiful old green velvet dress that looked like something from Gone With the Wind. They were really the focal points of the display and both sold within days. I am not complaining...just wish I had taken pictures on the day we re-did the booth. I will try to be better about posting...I am going to take my camera to Roundtop this time.
